Disgaea 4 Netherworld Tips Dood!

Disgaea is an amazing series, but can be a little harsh to anyone unfamiliar with the Tactical RPG format or new to the series itself. One of the biggest goals in the game is to grind endlessly to become so uber-powerful that nothing can stand in your way. As a huge fan of the series, with almost 1000 hours of game-time played over the franchise in total, I put together some helpful tips to help you out in the Netheworld.

Main Game/Post-Game
  • Enjoy and take your time with the story while going back to each map after the first time. Maps usually feature different enemies and layouts after completing it for the campaign scenario.
  • Watch and pay attention to the tutorials in the game, there’s always useful information and showcases new features included in the game.
  • If you are having a tough time on a story map, don’t get frustrated by it. Just go grind some levels on an earlier and easy map.
  • Post-Game fights are always tougher than Main Game, so don’t be surprised when you have a level 1000 boss to fight when completing the story. Always be prepared and study up on the fights by checking their stats and gear.
  • Upgrade your shops or dabble in Item World to find better equipment. Early on in the campaign, having the next rank of your weapon and armor can make a world of difference.
  • Take advantage of the Evil Symbols and format of your characters in the Cam-Pain. Training Ground, Heart Cannon, and the Aura Pyramid will be your favorites for future endeavors.
  • Make a Thief, and keep them a decent level. Stealing is one of the most underrated features to beginners in Disgaea but a necessity.
  • Save every chance you get, you never know when a challenge will appear.

Leveling
  • Level 9999 will come in due time, don’t make max level a priority. Keep your focus on trying to have better gear and the levels will come.
  • There will be maps made for leveling, take advantage of this. The obvious one will be a 9-block set of enemies ready to be killed.
  • Gear doesn’t have any level requirements so switch your items around when leveling a new character. With amazing gear, a level 1 can demolish an opponent who is hundreds or thousands of levels higher.
  • Early on, try to keep a team of characters the same level with team attacks/tower attacks. Having five or six characters who are around the same level will help out more than having one person who is only a few levels higher.
  • Reincarnating into the next tier of the character class will always be beneficial. Higher aptitudes and the reincarnation bonus help a ton, especially when trying to make over-powered characters.
  • Statistician, remember that name. Statistician is an Innocent found in Disgaea that grants more experience per kill. Find them, capture them, and keep them on a piece of gear you will be using to level.

Item World
  • Always, always…ALWAYS keep a Mr. Gency Exit on you at any given time. Item World can be unforgiving and you will need an escape plan.
  • Have a Mothman and/or Masked Hero in your party as a “Runner”. Equip 3 Slippers to max out as much momement range as possible. Combine this with having 4-6 Heavy Knights for their wonderful throw distance, and there won’t be many Item World maps that will be a problem, except for those with Gate-Keepers.
  • Always double kill the Item Bosses in Item World. Every 10th floor there is a boss, which will be noted when the “Check” pops over their head at the start of the battle. To double kill, when you first reach the floor, kill the Item boss and use a Mr. Gency Exit. You’ll get the bonus for killing him and you’ll see the improvements of the item as well as get a break to get healed. Then go back in the item and kill him again to get the bonus twice, and if you clear the map you are guaranteed another Mr. Gency Exit.
  • Use the Diagonal-Throw to reach those annoying places and shorten the gap between you and the Gate. To perform a Diagonal-Throw, lift a character up and move the cursor to the max distance to throw. Then switch back and forth from left-to-right and you will notice the cursor highlighting a block in the middle of the two directions. Press X at the right time and viola! You just threw diagonally dood.

Hopefully these few tips will help you in your adventure of the Netheworld and guide you into being one hell of a beast. If you have any questions or comments, voice them in the comment section down below. Now go back to grinding dood!
